...But don't take my word for it.

When you see violence in a country half a world away don't take comfort in saying "that is them, not us." Because when any child is abused it is you who are abused. When any wife is beaten it is you that is beaten. When any people are oppressed it is you who are oppressed. And, too, it is you who are the cruel, the assailant and the tyrant when your heart screams "stop this" but your mouth is silent. You who are convinced that one person is powerless to make change, tell me, what other way is there? You need not have the bravery of good mothers, the spare time of bearded philosophers or the arrogance of crusaders. But listen to the unease in your heart and be that which you admire most of human nature, simply by deciding to. And the ripples of change will flow out from you in ever-widening circles until it encompasses all the world. This is not a new idea. It is a natural law as old as life itself. And if this is the first time you've heard of it imagine all the other wonders your parents didn't know to tell you.

Yeah, abuse and violence are disgusting! However, our heart screams "stop this" but our mouth is still silent...
