You knew me before you ever met me.
The trick is to remember what you have purposefully, impressively, forgotten.
Yay! Internet!
It's Winter and I'm not cold!
I'm beginning to like cafe lattes. Especially when they get me free internet access.
But anyway, yes, I'm in Hong Kong!! In fact I've been here almost three days already and before that I was in Singapore for four nights. I have so much to tell you but I doubt much of it will be said coz a) this cafe will be closed before I'm halfway done and b) the recurring Can't-Be-Fucked syndrome. I've been wanting to write so much since I left Perth but there's never the time or the privacy when you're with your parents and 9 yr old child. My god, I keep wanting to say 8 yr old but she's turning 10 in a few months. My dad, as loveable as he is, has been testing me and my mother's patience. He reminds me much of my second husband when we were on hols, but really nowhere near as bad. He just freaks out and gets all flustered and makes everything a hundred times harder than it has to be. But listen to me, I'm complaining about something that isn't even a problem anymore. He was pretty bad in the beginning but he's chilled out considerably and things are sailing much, much smoother now.
But for a while there, to put both the parentals at ease, I voluntarily took the position of Team Leader and, with the exception of hotel arrangements and money changing, I was practically in charge. At this point the people who know me will be falling off their chairs because they all know my highly unfabulous sense of direction. "Highly unfabulous" here means "complete lack of". But don't worry, I haven't been overcome with a sudden total change of character. Today I led my family several kilometres exactly in the opposite direction of where we were meant to be going on a walk that would have only taken us maybe 20 mins. Instead we walked three times that distance before we realised my error then we took the subway to backtrack 5 stops only to find that the Space Museum was closed on Tuesdays.
Ah, well.
I want to tell you about all the little differences I've observed of these two countries and all the little quirks (totally useless bits of information of course, but interesting to us avid students of human nature) but I've been gone a while now and the Munchkin will be complaining.
One thing I have noticed is the phenomenal amount of waste humans produce just by living day to day. It twists a knife in my heart coz I'm not sure if many other people notice it. Well, I suppose if they did it wouldn't be a problem coz something would've been done about it by now.
Okay, okay, I've gotta go.
Love to the wife and the mentor. See you in less than two weeks!
